In a recent search for the best invoicing tool, I was overwhelmed with the options! There were many browser based apps and software to choose from. As I was comparing features to a variety of these invoicing tools, I found some completely free invoicing tools that I thought were worthy of sharing.

(Keep in mind there are many good invoicing tools that charge a monthly fee or had a free version that allowed for 1-5 free invoices, but this is a list of completely FREE tools.)

Free Invoicing Browser Based Apps

Billing Boss

User can easily keep track of billings and payments. Add customers and then send them a quote or invoice. Accounts at Billing Boss can be integrated with Sage Payment Services, Beanstream, or PayPal. There is a mobile version that interacts with applications on the iPhone or G1. Unlike other invoice solutions, with Billing Boss, there are no limits to the number of invoices you can create or send. really like the paypal option. The problem I currently have with Billing Boss is their lack of professional invoice templates, but I know this is something they are currently working on.

Intuit Billing Manager

Intuit Billing Manager is also a free and intuitive online invoicing application. You can easily create and send quotes and invoices. The application gives you a review of what is overdue and what has been paid. Users can send reminders to customers if there is an outstanding payment. You can manually add or import CSV file of your business contacts at once. After filling the information, the invoice can be saved, previewed, printed, or sent by email. You can also set up merchant accounts for an extra fee.

Invoice Journal

Invoice Journal is a simple web site that lets you create and track your invoices. There’s a simple form for entering new clients, and another for sending invoices to those clients. You can download their invoice template and design your own to match your own business design. Invoice Journal claims it will always be free: “We will never charge for our core product so you will always be able to send unlimited invoices to unlimited clients!”
